Hi, Mission Makeover Viewers:

Let’s go back to high school, for a second. Now, I don’t want you to focus on your prom, locker, or crazy hair. I want you to think about something a lot less pleasant: mid-term exams.

Remember those? What a pain. But now that you’re all grown up, I’m sure you can revisit the need for them with enhanced understanding. Your teacher needed to make sure you understood everything he or she taught you before proceeding with the rest. Why? Because education builds on itself. You need to understand and really master certain principles, before you can add to them.

Tips To Stay Focused

This was the basic idea behind this week’s episode of Mission Makeover. As you’ll see, our ladies are doing wonderfully with moving toward their weight-loss goals; but now that they are at their midway point, they need to be assessed and assess themselves. Why? Because we need to see what’s working (and what hasn’t been) in order to capitalize on the good stuff; and modify whatever needs to be changed.

Here’s what’s scary for our contestants: With just a few episodes of our show left, it won’t be long until they are truly on their own. Yes, they will have their friends and family for support…yes, the other coaches and I will remain just a phone call away…but our ladies have been receiving a lot of hand-holding, information, and motivation over the past few months; and they need to be able to keep themselves on track starting in the next few weeks.

As you saw on the program, I met with each of our contestants individually this week, right after yoga class. A devoted yogi myself, I know that few things put the universe and our place in it into context like yoga; so I thought the timing to “dig deep” was right. I want you, at home, if you practice yoga or meditation, to also use the moments right after for deep reflection. Write in your journal, create inspirational self-messages, and/or set your intentions for the day while you’re relaxed and grateful. It will make a difference for you, as it has made with our ladies.

I also want to point out that I met with our ladies outside. We are lucky enough to live and film in South Florida; and I know it’s easier to spend time outside, here, compared to other regions. Despite that, I recommend putting yourself in nature to do some soul searching as often as possible. Human beings go through a lot of effort to separate ourselves from other animals. But the truth is, despite our outfits, make-up, homes, and restaurants, we are mammals. Being outside is part of what we need most! In your natural surroundings, I invite you to ground yourself in the earth’s elements, listen to nature’s sounds and quiet, take the fresh air deeply into your lungs, hear nature’s whispers…and then turn inward for self-affirmations and answers. I assure you, you’ll find a lot more clarity on a mountain than at the mall.

It’s easy to start anything new, once you’ve decided to, with energy and willpower. But it’s also easy to peter out. It happens to the best of us. To keep yourself on track, make a date with yourself (I’m serious…mark your calendar) to ask yourself where you are: What’s working? What isn’t? Is what’s working still exciting? Where do you predict future obstacles and how can you combat them? Get outside, get relaxed, and listen to your inner voice. You have the answers…you just need permission to ask the questions. I’m giving it to you. Go.
