Women in Distress
The Mission Makeover girls have shed their pounds but now it’s time to shed clothes that are now too big. From feeding the homeless with their families. to forming their own charitable organization. And using their passions to help those less fortunate, our ladies continue to open their hearts. The girls head to a thrift store run by Women in Distress of Broward County to give back to women who are starting over and living a new life, free of domestic violence.
The Women in Distress Mission is to stop domestic violence abuse for everyone through intervention, education and advocacy. Women in Distress believe that each survivor of domestic violence has the right to a safe, secure home and the capability to self-determine their violence free future. Women in Distress focuses on providing an environment that will help their participants recover from the traumatic effects of victimization and empower them to gain independence.
Survivors and their families are given vouchers to the thrift store and can select what they need from the store for free to help rebuild their lives and have a new beginning. The Mission Makeover girls meet up with President and CEO Mary Riedel, who will introduce them to an inspirational women who has overcome adversity and has dedicated her life to helping other women.
What would a beauty day be without a little shopping? The girls explore the thrift store for some treasures of their own and donate their clothing to a very worthy cause. After all, Beauty is, as Beauty Does.
